The Waiakea Pirates youth baseball organization is looking for T-ball (ages 5-6) and Bronco (11-12) players for the 2018 season.

Basketball training

An advanced basketball training program will be held Aug. 12, 19 and 26 at the Old Kona Old Airport’s Kekuaokalani gymnasium.

Training is from 9:30 a.m.-noon and is free to all experienced players ages 10-17.

Rainforest runs

Registration is ongoing for the Volcano Rainforest Runs, set for Aug. 19.

The half-marathon starts at 7 a.m., with the 5K (7:45 a.m.) and 10K (8 a.m.) to follow – all runs start and finish at Cooper Center on Wright Road in Volcano Village.

The fees for the races – half-marathon ($75), 10K ($45), 5K ($30) – will go up slightly after Monday.

Among the registration options is a packet pickup from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Palace Theater in Hilo. There is no race-day registration for the half-marathon, but sign-ups for the other two races will be held 5:30-7 a.m. Aug. 19.

A Keiki Run and Zero Mile are planned later in the morning.

Mana 10s

The Mana 10s will be held at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in Waimea.

The entry fees for the 10-miler and 10K are $5 for Big Island Road Runners members and $10 for non-members., and race-day registration is available from 6:30-7:15 p.m.
